CHRISTMAS SMOOTHIE TIME

Ok, ok ... this won't be about a Christmas Smoothie so much as it will be about a green smoothie in a red coffee mug. Therefore kind of representing Christmas with its colors ... just go with me on this !

Last Saturday, Avery let me know that she wanted a smoothie for breakfast. That is always music to my ears because like many a 2 1/2 year old, my little lady does not love her veggies. But I get to pile that smoothie so high with spinach or kale ( or sometimes green beans - trust me, it all tastes the same ) and she is none the wiser ! Of course I also added some of her favorites which tricks her into believing that she's consumed a fun and non- healthy treat *cue diabolical mom laugh*.

     I began with this:

     And then did this:

I basically blended my spinach first with a very small amount of water. That enabled me to add more spinach than I typically would have been able to if I had blended the spinach up along with all of the other ingredients. Then, I cut up the banana and strawberries and Avery tossed them into the blender.

Once it had all been smoothly blended, I added uncooked old fashioned oats and a little honey to make it a healthy, delicious and well rounded treat. Below was the final result , and if I do say so myself ... YUM !

  1. I love it! I will have to try this on my kids...red mug included! I never add oatmeal to their's but this is a great idea to do so to give them a well rounded treat like you said!
